I recently cried on the collective shoulders of RFF, all about how my Konica Auto S2 had an inoperatve aperture, and how I'd found and bought a set of spanners, and immediately got in over my head while trying to dismantle the lens barrel to get to the problem.

Realizing how inept I was, I immediately sold the spanners. Guess what...

There's somebody in the world more inept than me. The folks who sold me the spanner set sent a second set. Maybe this means that, (after a proper time for them to realize the mistake and (theoretically) request the package returned, and after I tell them I'll do so if they send a pre-paid mailer, and they fail to do so.)...I'll attempt it again! We'll see...

I'm currently awaiting a Konica C35 EF I found for CHEAP on the 'bay, and will practice my (lack of) skills on THAT unit. What a long, strange road it seems...

Yes, there are some inept people out there. A few years back, I ordered a brick of 120 T-Max 400 online (20 rolls) and a few days later I found a rather large box on my front porch. The company had sent me 200 rolls (10 bricks). They wouldn't answer my e-mails, so eventually I just figured I got one hell of a good deal on some film.

my conscience got the better of me.

I was sent 4 packs of Ilford paper instead of the 2 I ordered from an eBay vendor. I actually called to get them some more money. The wonderful lady who took my call (in accounting) said I was to be commended for my honesty, and I should enjoy the extra 2 packs at no additional charges.
YIPPEE...guilt free printing!! :angel:

Nothing to do with photography but a few years ago the business I owned was reliant on the products of a company in England and I used to import direct from them. A particular item that I ordered in a quantity of 1500 arrived in a box that seemed larger than I had expected ... they supplied 15000! They werent interested in my returning the items ... they decided it was less trouble to write it off as a mistake than pay for and organise return freight!

Similar to the story about the Tmax I suspect ... somehow an extra zero wound up where it wasn't meant to be! 😛

This happened to me with a hood I ordered from HK for one of my Leica lenses. Hood arrived. 5 days later hood arrived again. I had no real need for it so I contacted the vendor about his mistake and told him to Paypal me for shipping and that I'd send it back. He askd if I wanted to buy it, I told him not really unless he wanted to sell it at his cost so he'd at least break even on the deal and he said I could have it for full price only otherwise he wanted me to send it back. I told him fine, paypal the shipping cost and on it's way it shall be. Never heard from him again. Go figure.

That was years ago. They used to sell film online all the time, at prices that were less than I could get locally, but the company I used to get it from is not there anymore. I don't remember the name.

Okay, official rant time:

I used to buy Vesta brand FB paper online too, at about half the price of Ilford and way less than the Oriental I used to use (about ten years back, when Oriental Seagull paper was available in something other than glossy). Vesta was pretty good paper too and I was glad to find out about it. Unfortunately, they discontinued it over ten years ago. All Vesta makes now is crappy printer paper. A few years later, I stopped using Oriental when I couldn't get Seagull paper in "luster" finish anymore (I seriously dislike glossy papers). They used to make the best paper in the world, but I think they are really going to hell in a handbasket these days; I just found out that their "FB" paper is now actually plastic coated ("cuts washing and drying times dramatically"). Maybe it's just me, but wouldn't that pretty much make it an RC paper? If I wanted to cut my washing and drying times that badly, I wouldn't be using FB paper in the first place. It just doesn't have the same look that it used to either. Anyway, after looking around and trying a few other papers, I finally found one FB paper that was almost as good as the papers that I couldn't get anymore. Can you guess what paper that was? Well, here's a hint: it came in a big orange box and was made by Agfa. That's right, that's gone too now. These days I'm using Ilford and Forte papers that I wouldn't have used if I could get them for free back then.

I ordered a Canon copier from one of the NYC photo stores, and had them ship COD to give them a reason not to delay. Paid 10% up front, and when the truck arrived there was no COD paperwork. I phoned the store twice, on my dime as there's no 800-number for the Accounting Dept, but I was never billed for the rest.

Fast-forward some years and the copier needed internal overhaul. An outfit 2 hours drive away had an authorized repair shop and a nearby sales office. After several months the repair was done, and the sales guys told me they'd leave the copier in the cable-TV office next door, as they were out on sales calls. When I picked up the copier, there was no repair invoice. Again a couple phone calls to their main store didn't result in any paperwork. Free repair...

(Chuckle)...I guess it's cheaper to eat a mistake than to correct it, eh? The real problem, though, is that I'm now enabled to create some serious mayhem whenever I get near a camera that is AT ALL suspect of being less than perfect. All I can think of is...left over pieces, desk strewn with odd pieces of metal, glass, and plastic, and me finally burying the spanners in the back yard. Oh, well...
