I bought this Zorki from BuzzardKid a few weeks ago, intending to sell it on to a friend of mine who has been wanting to get into rangefinders (I actually just wanted the Turret Finder he was selling in the same lot 😉 )

I tested the shutter, which showed that the second curtain dragged intermittently on the speeds of 1/100th of a second and slower.

But, not discouraged I loaded it up with some Kodacolor 200, screwed in an I-61 and took it with me to work, on bicycle trips and a WW2 living history event.

Here's the first few scans from the event at Fort Veldhuis in the Netherlands:

Looks like shutter drag on the left side of the image. Apart from that the camera behaved pretty well. The I-61 is eye-watering sharp

I'll upload a few more pics from the rest of the roll later today.

I'm going to give the shutter a good clean to see if I can get rid of the problem. And then try again 😉

Regards,

Rick,

Check that both the light baffles are clear of the curtains - I have had that problem in the past. Otherwise, looks good.

Sounds like a good starting point for the investigation. Thanks John.

I haven't got the camera in my hand right now, but I take it is a matter of loosening the screws; Bring the baffles forward slightly and tightening the screws again.
Or do I need to bend them?

Rick,

It depends on whether they are just out of position, or deformed. You may be lucky and be able to just loosen the screws and tighten up in a new position. On my Fed 1g, I had to do a bit of judicious bending.

Of course, it could always be just a film chip behind one of the baffles..............

A good clean was already in the planning. I'll see when I can find the time....
I was planning to scan 2 rolls worth of negatives today, but I got volunteered to help someone pick up a Winnebago in Belgium....got home past 10pm...

So I finally got round to uploading some more Zorki shots

"Hoefsven", an old fen that used to be part of a natural water swimming pool. But now every summer it is infected with Blue-algue which can be dangerous to swimmers.

Welcome to Deadwood

Not sure if they can be eradicated without damaging other wildlife. Blue algae are a botulism bacteria that multiplies explosively during the warmest weeks of the year. A number of bodies of water are constantly being inspected for it in my area.
Botulism is an illness that can kill smaller creatures like ducks or dogs that swim in the water. There are some variants that are dangerous to people. Last week this particular fen was considered safe to swim in again; And a group of elderly people still do on a daily bases (blue algae or not). It's been ages since I've swam in it though. 😉
