If you mean the cameras are similar, heck no. One has a huge APS-C sensor, the other has a tiny 1/1.6" sensor. One is an F4 prime, the other is a 2.0-2.8 zoom. One is very slow, the other is probably just as quick as other digital P&S (but still slow compared to a film camera).

I'm hoping the image quality will be less like that first sample and more like that third one. I also hope it will cost well below $500.

If the DP-1 had the same lens spec as this thing, I'd be all over it.
This camera may end up being another "near miss," but I'll take comfort in the fact that shots are being taken in the right direction.

Did anyone else read the text accompanying those sample images? The shots were taken by a "reviewer," not familiar with the camera, on a website that also covers cell phones, laptops and earphones, on a possibly preproduction camera. Personally, I would say that renders them as useless. Would you trust a reviewer from Consumer Reports?

I didn't read the text of that review, but I completely agree with your point. Anyway, I'm really looking forward to seeing a serious review of a production sample of this camera. Nice to see some one heading in the right direction.

Those pics on Flickr aren't bad. The images aren't that crisp at 100%, but they look good for a P&S and the corner sharpness seems better than with the 28mm equiv Canons. You could probably pull out better quality with RAW and some post-processing, but I'm not expecting any miracles from a sensor of this size. There's no reason to believe that ISO400 performance will be any better than it is with other high-end P&S digitals.

Seems like a G9 with a wider/shorter zoom range and no optical VF.

Me too - I love the LX2 - in particular the panoramic format and the screen. The handling is not bad either once one gets used to it.

The viewfinder is great - but judging from the pictures at flickr maybe with 24mm markings only.

Well, Santa is going to have it easy this year :p

This one would be nice for a good meter with the added bonus of extra camera capabilities :) If it takes SD-micro cards with the appropriate adapter, I could even photoblog from my nokia smartphone quite easily..

Not to mention my great experiences with the finder for the CV21, which makse me pretty sure I'd want one of those aswell..
 
Wow. I might be trading my GX-100 for this instead of the GX-200. :eek:

I love the 16:9 of the Pana/Leicas, and the controls have always been first rate. With an f2.0 wide angle, this thing could be alot of fun.

And it does seem that someone at Panasonic has an ear to the forums, as this camera has alot of the features we've been asking for. Let's hope it rubs off on Leica and the M9 has similar improvements.
 
don't see much difference between this LX3 and other 'older' digi P&S with small sensors.. then again i'm only viewing on screen... only thing that makes this really compelling (over the LX2, GX100 or even GRD) is 24 f2... would like to see what it can do, indoors, low light at f2 and ISO400 or 800 ... although this camera seems compelling on paper, i wonder if it would be an improvement for my needs in a digiP&S

i find my GRD at f2.4 ISO400 to be the upper limit of lower light performance (acceptable 8x10 prints) but i guess if i want low light performance i will always reach for the M3 with Canon 50/1.5 or D200 with 50/1.2AIS...
 
After a few small adjustments maybe in the firmware...looks like the new D-Lux 4...

I have the D-Lux 3 and this new model turns me on.......if it's as good then great bit I think it's safe to say...improved......
