Hi folks,
I'm looking for a repair person to overhaul my dirt- (and possibly fungus-) afflicted early 85mm Sonnar for Contax RF, located in the US. Ideally someone who is experienced in working on these lenses and has a relatively short turnaround.
Thank you for your help!

Any repairman knowing how to read the excellent instructions for overhauling a Jupiter-9 on the Kiev Survival Site will do the job.

Drop Henry Scherer a line. He may be able to help without you waiting in line. At least it is likely that he will have parts if they are needed.

Mark Hansen also works on them so you can touch base with him as well.

Henry Scherer is neither known as somebody able to help without having people waiting in line for years nor as somebody prone to share spare parts with Contax enthusiasts.

If this is a prewar Sonnar 85 the overhaul process is strictly identical to what it is for a Jupiter-9 and I can't see why spare parts should be necessary. And even for a reasonably skilled amateur repairer this is quite an easy lens to work on, even to clean the optical elements.

Thanks for the input - it's good to know that the overhaul is not likely to be complex. I was hoping to obtain details of specific repair people, as I don't know how to evaluate who is "reasonably skilled" - so I was hoping to choose one based on RFF members' experience.
Thanks again!

There are many recommended repairers in NYC I guess (I live on the other side of the Atlantic so I don't know them but for the most famous ones here on the RFF).

Any of them, once he has Russ Pinchbeck's instructions (link) at hands, will be able to tackle that lens even if he never did any similar before.

Henry Scherer is (or at least was last time I used him) a master with Contax but I agree he is not likely to do a fast job nor is his level of skill necessary for that lens CLA. If you want a sure fire top notch job Don of DAG is the man but he is not cheap.
