As a Leica M user with an NEX3, I've been waiting for Full Frame and built in EVF. Given the specs, this hands on and the price, I think I may well be looking at the A7r in my near future to compliment my M9/M8.

I have been known to ask silly questions before. But with an adapter I can use my Leica, Contax G or Nikon manual focus lenses on this Sony A7? It will be full frame? I want to make sure I got it right before I start begging my wife for one.

You are not alone. I can't believe how ugly they look.

I don't think they're design icons, but i don't think they're disgusting either. I think they look the way they do, to minimise size and weight, yet, still be functional.
Personally I'd have liked the styling to be more like the R9, with the hump in the middle like that, but it's hardly the smallest 35mm film camera out there.

I'm looking forward to seeing how it'll look with my VC 35/1.4 on it as it's the best looking lens on my NEX

yes, I think they look ugly indeed,...but a camera is a tool, and specs and price will win it over design for me

I don't find them particularly attractive to look at and I question the control ergonomics.
Basically, the 'innovation' is to stuff a big sensor into a small body, centered on Live View. It's not a bad thing, it has some advantages, but there seem to be a number of negatives in this first introduction as well. Limited fully functional lenses available, no in-body image stabilization, etc.
The A7 has potential. Lots of good stuff about it despite the negatives. I don't ascribe to the "FF is the Holy Grail" dogma, though, so at this time it's not really of any more than passing interest to me.

I don't mind it so much with the 35mm 2.8 Zeiss. I'd use that combo, but I'm not sure I'd buy it.

cool video for a cool camera. thanks for sharing! autofocusing on other brand lenses was new to me.
who cares how it looks as long as it works?? Leica is there for the boutique camera buyers already.

Why did something historical happen for the company today?

I am becoming more and more interested in this camera. I actually like the way it looks. The lenses mtf curves are superb. FF is definitely the holy grail (for me).

not much, just lost its monopoly on full frame mirrorless market.

A high percentage of the M camera buyers dont buy them because of the rangefinder, imho. They bought the M because of FF and to drive the rangefinder lenses. They now can buy a camera for 1.500 and spent more than 5.000 for deliciouse m lenses. I tell you that with this Sony world sensation the amount of saled Leica cameras will break every year for 50%!
This was exactly what with German SLR camera producers happened in the past when Japan camera industry attaked.
This new Sony combo has definitely got my attention, and its been a looooooong time since a digital camera achieved that! If the microlens array does a good job with M-mount glass I will be very tempted
