Sony Alpha

For those who may be interested, looks like B&H has the body lens kit in stock now. Same with the Nikon D200.

It looks to me that the good news about the Alpha is that it is going to start a price and performance war. I think good things are not to far on the horizon from Nikon and Canon to counter the Alpha.

I agree. Competition is always good for the consumer.

Nikon's reply is supposed to come out in a little over 2 weeks.

I am still saving Ray. Like we talked, Canon said 2007 was going to be a big year for the DSLR. Lets hope they make it a huge year as a result of being pushed by Sony and Nikon.

only in our wildest dreams. probably just the 1dsmkiii with 25mp and a replacement for the 350d. i would be interested in a 1-series body with the vertical grip chopped off, as the 5d doesn't light my fire.

canon rangefinder? yaak, lets pray for zeiss ikon digital (full frame, with new fuji sensor (crystals, with random grain) who cares about plastic canon :)

Or a digital 7 with M mount and the 0.95 lens as one option? And not to forget: a full-frame sensor, of course. Maybe they could call it the Canon 8 to annoy Leica?

some of us hold the old canon rangefinders close to our hearts...a new one from canon would turn my world topsy turvy.

canon lenses were also great, some of them anyway.

and today they are the biggest digital seller so they must be doing 'right'.

let's face it - plastic is here to stay, hell, my car bumper is a plastic of some kind.

Your car plastic elements are for savety, canon is on first place because of great marketing deparment, plus biggest does not mean best ;)

No, no Nikon Canon crap.

We only are allowed Contax Leica bull, and only if you are talking the Contax 11 or 111 v the Lieca IIIa or IIIc. More recent than that and we don't talk about it. ;)

Unlike Epson/Cosina, Leica, ZI and even Nikon, Canon has not made rangefinders in decades. Hopefully, the recent interest in digital rangefinders will spur more products in that arena.

I would not mind an entry level model M-mount in the price range of the D50 or Oly E500. It is probably going to be from Panasonic, with a 4/3 sensor. The trouble with that will be that with the 2x crop, even my 35mm will become a telephoto.

I am still holding out for a Sony digital version of the Hexar RF, with .90x. :)

Well now we have Zeiss Ikon and Leica. People got all upset about that a few weeks ago...

The thing I like about the alpha is I could use all my old Rokkor glass

and it already has a projected line up of a bivy of Zeiss Glass

It will be interesting to see how it sells

Rumour has it that Pentax will launch their version of the alpha/d200 in the next two months. Should make life a little more interesting.

Back to RF, CV must have the RD1 redesign in their sights soon. Hopefully higher volume and cheaper.
