I've had my '5 for almost a year. Sony brought out the 5N two weeks after I got it. My fault. I looked and looked at the NEX before buying and never considered it would be replaced.

Have you bought a 5N? Should I update to a 5N now?

First, Welcome to the forum..

I used both, the difference between the -5 and -5N is mainly on the sensor, the latter features offset microlenses on the sensor; reduces smearing & color shift with the lenses having rear elements close to sensor surface.

Does this worth the switch over? If you are going to use RF lenses of 35mm and shorter on the NEX then a big YES.. if you are going to stick to Sony offerings or SLR lenses than you do not need.

Thank you for your response, and welcome.

I have regularly read posts here since I first joined in '08. My favourite camera of all time was my M3

It improved my workflow, and was an incredible tool. I regret my gear was stolen after a car crash.

Some would say that the finder attachment is also a draw to the 5N. I have the 5 and have not upgraded - if FF is even a possibility, I am content to mount a 1:1 35 external finder and wait.

Can't comment on the '5' but I've been impressed by the '5n'. Predominantly a B&W film shooter, the Nex 5n is actually my first digital camera that I mainly pair with M-mount lenses. A link to my current collection of 5n (mostly B&W) shots. Its obviously done to style and processing but it is certainly a nice camera (especially with that EVF)

I believe that new NEX bodies are coming this year (or at least will be announced) and that one of them is a new 5.

So I would just keep using the 5 and wait to see what Sony puts out. At worst, if you don't like the new bodies the price of the 5N may drop.

Thank you.
I had a deal arranged...trade my 5 in for a 5N, and pay a fair bit. I had rationalized it. Couldn't sleep that night. Next day when I showed with cash, they told me the clerk had quoted their cost, and they needed 15% more. I wouldn't do that deal.

So I went to the Sony Store. Asked when the replacement would be out. Of course they wouldn't tell me.

However, the gentleman turned the store computer screen around so I could see the display.

The 5N silver is discontinued. 5N black is not.

Interesting!
