This kind of stuff drives me nuts. Be it Film and Digital, Mac and PC, iPhone and Palm Pré... It's all boring blather.
I would like to say who gives a sh..... But clearly some people do.
I'm much more bothered about the end result, for me that's the print or the projection from a slide (or laptop these days)
I'm sure there are many points that many items are 'better' in a purely technical way compared to the main competitor or alternative but really, does it matter so much when they are already so close to each other's abilities.
Some of the reaction to these debates from people verges on hysterical, as if you've called them a rude name, told them that they suck and so does everything they think, that you got it right and they are wrong wrong wrong... Before it descends into who started it. Yah, hello, sounds a bit like reception class and a bunch of 4 years olds...
All I care about is the end result. A good photo can be taken on film or digital. A really sucky photo can be taken on film. A really sucky photo can be taken on digital.
If the photographer is worth their weight in salt, they'll turn out a good picture with whatever they prefer or were shooting at the time and it's the end result that matters most to me. And if someone shoots a great landscape or a emotive portrait, my first thoughts are wow, and second, wow. Not whether that's some film interpolation in the corner or some chromatic aberation of a slug, or whatever.... All of that blather is a bunch of anal twittering. All that matters is pictures and I cannot thing of anything more soul destroying than spending your days shooting test charts, only to rush over to Photo.net ego expanded to put your findings forwards in yet another Film vs. Digital show down....
GAH! This has always gone on of course, medium format vs small format etc.
Me, I couldn't give a toss. 🙂
Enjoy photography peeps.
