Just want to save a few bugs for new gears, I made some TU for personal use.

I made them with aluminium angle bars, all it takes is some common workshop skills, and here they are :

The skin has been changed by myself to get a better grip as suggested by other members, also a black dot instead of red. Btw, I like the 'Panda' look :

very impressive.... I am the last person to attempt something that is "handyman" related, but I sure do appreciate those who are good at this craft....

I gotta say that Tim Isaac's current line (particularly the CSEP-1 an d CSEP-4) have a more ergonomic grip and cold shoe, which I love. But different grips will appeal to different folks. Great work, but nice to see more craftsmanship around the M.

Nice! like the look of your M. Mind telling me what 'skin' you've upgraded to and how did you get the black dot? DIY i assume?

I had that original CS-1 then recently upgarded to the CSEP-1 so i can attach my external VF. In some ways, the original CS-1 fitted my finter better. Oh well.

Could just be my large hands... I much prefer the M8 shape to any "ergonomic" camera (think DSLR) but the thumb support is a nice grippy way to hang on to the camera more securely and a place to rest my (as mentioned) long thumb. Initially I was sceptical (as I too like the smooth shape) but I am a fervent convert now.

The skin is like the classic volcunite but a bit softer and more 'sticky', member "meven" bought it for me on line. This new skin alone has already improved very much the grip, now with my TU, i have total confidence in holding the camera with one hand!

About the dot, it was replaced by the dealer here in HK.

You've got to be kidding: Thumbs Up is patented.

I was just going to say that - I mean, I know that imitation is the sincerest form of flattery but in this case, I wonder what would/will occur with respect to such a creation.

While this may be "ok" over in Hong Kong or thereabouts, I wonder how this sort of infringement (is there any patent infringement at all ???) would fly in the "land of the lawsuit" (i.e. the U.S.A.)?

Curious about this one,
Dave

Producing a patented product for commercial sale is illegal in Hong Kong as well, as is intellectual theft; but I suppose making a TU for oneself is no problem although I've no idea whether pubicising it on a public forum involves any patent infringement. A producer isn't being litigious if he sues to protect his patent rights.

The guy said flat out he made it for his personal use.

If it's patented, I doubt it is in the US. A US patent takes quite a long time to be issued, and the TU has not been out all that long.

I wonder if the patent was for the "Thumbs Up" name, or for the fact it was a device to improve grip on an M body using a piece of metal stuck onto a hotshoe.

I may put in my patent for a device to secure my camera using a piece of string - hey guys, stop using MY handstrap/neckstrap!!!!
