Soup recommendation for FP4+

I have a roll of Ilford FP4+ 125 speed and have never shot or developed any. WWhat do you guys recommend? It is 120 roll format

I've always found Ilfosol-S at the 1+14 dilution (9:30 minutes) to be good for both 120 and 35mm FP4+. Ilfosol gives full speed and fine grain.

At what speed do you want to expose it? What kind of conditions? Subject matter? Are you after low grain or high sharpness (FP4 is moderately grainy for a medium speed film)?

I use everything from perceptol to rodinal to D76, depending on the subject matter and desired look.

Well, 100 is a bit fast for Rodinal, otherwise I'd recommend that. If you want to keep it simple, try D76 1+1 or 1+3 to increase acutance. The other usual suspects - XTOL, DDX - would also be fine, but I like starting with D76 when I can.

Grain in 120 size should still be fine. Sorry I missed the filim format size the first time I read your post.

Ilfotec DD-X. All of the shots in my gallery were developed with that and there are alot of FP4 shots in there.

Don't you think you'd lose too much sharpness with D76 straight? I like it with 35mm so far, but I'm not sure I'd want to give up that sharpness with 120.

Good point, Allan. I generally use it 1:1 unless I'm trying to tame the grain a bit. My normal 'basic' developer for film is HC-110 -- I don't use D76 as much as I used to.

HC-110 or Rodinal will give better sharpness/acutance. I disagree with "100 is a bit fast for Rodinal", but that's taste, not absolute. Heck, I like Tri-X in Rodinal. DD-X is nice, but base+fog is higher than HC110 or Rodinal.

I use D-76 1:1 for just about everything. It works great with FP4+.

Well, I never meant to imply that it was an "absolute" that EI 100 was too fast for Rodinal. Of course that's my taste. And there isn't anything wrong with TXT in Rodinal, either.

Thanks for the clarity, Allan. From your other posts, I was pretty sure you weren't an "absolutist". FWIW, I haven't tried FP4 in Rodinal for a long time, so a newer formulation may not work as well as it used to.

Try one tablespoon d76 in hot water, cool it to 20º C with an ice cube, then soup your FP4 in it for 8 min. I guess you'll love the result.

Rick I noticed you are fro La. If you are not to far from Ft Necessity then I have some HC-110 you can try
