Today, I had a chance to attend the Indy Series race at Motegi in Japan. I was very lucky to get pit passes. Here are a series of photos of the practice session. This is my third time to event. I think I have finally got some technique down. Please add some photos demonstrating speed of any sort!

Nice shots. You might want to try panning to keep the car in focus and blur the background, as in Peter M 1's shot. It's a difficult balance between getting the car in focus and blurring the background, or stopping all the motion and having it appear static.

Keep your eye on Sato, your homeboy. He's a really fast driver (I followed him when he was driving Formula One cars), but a risk taker. Crashes a lot. I'm picking Will Power to win the race.

Pan with the car! Think of yourself as the driver - you, the car, and your next move are in focus - everything else around you is a blur. That is the eyeball scene from the speed seat.

Two panning shots and one lucky shot! Panning is difficult. I tried. My backgrounds are not blurred in photos 2 and 3!

Jon,

I would say fast. Down the straight away they probably hit 300 kph. I wish I could have gone to the race today, but alas I could not!
