Hello guys! Top of the morning to you all. I'm in a good mood. Because even though I 'overspent' on my plan, I finally got what I wanted. And for a good price.

Have you ever walked into a camera store with a plan to buy, say, a US$200 bag only to walk out with a $2000 item? Well, this happened to me!

I just couldn't resist. Planned to buy just a bag, then ended up with a bloody camera. LOL.

What are your stories?

Last week I walked into Aldi intending only to get milk and bread and lashed out and bought some muesli bars as well!

😀

Well, I wanted to buy an EPL-3 and just the 45/1.8 because I needed a backup camera with a good lens to autofocus to complement my M9.

I ended up purchase a set of Ep3, 12/2, 20/1.7 and 45/1.8.

UGH.

Walked through Glazers today. Ended up next to a woman who came in for film and left with an X1 as a backup for her M9.

Evidently I only make impulsive purchases online - I haven't done anything like that in a store 🙂

Which one? 😀

None of those! Those are too expensive. Got mine from Lemonsha for a lot less than any of these.

Btw, you my friend are perceptive!

that's how I ended up with my Rokkor.

In general it takes me so long to make a decision that in store shopping is unrealistic for me unless I know precisely what it is I want to buy.

I tend to check some related forum(s) during the purchase period too. I can't leave well enough alone.

Pulling the trigger is either effortless or completely nerve-wracking for me with zero inbetween.

congrats on the M6. buying my M2 was like having a momentary rush of confidence and clarity. For about 2 minutes I JUST KNEW and did it and Im glad I did. been anguishing over that one for weeks and weeks.

No...haven't done that...
But, I did go in with the intention of buying a View Camera and everything needed to take a picture with it...went with a $4000 budget and pretty much spent it...that was back in August 1994...
Have added a few more lenses since then two new, two used, more film holders, bag bellows and other what-nots...
Haven't spent that much on a camera nor do I expect to ever do that again...still own everything and just shot a few sheets of Tri-X last Friday...

I usually have a budget and plan (list) when buying...😀:bang:😉

Occasionally I used to buy bargains, usually to sell at a profit, occasionally to use, or to write an article about. Nowadays is mostly just the latter, and usually for very modest amounts of money, e.g an Ikonta for 10€ a few weeks back.

Of course, buying bargains was in the days when there were lots of camera stores. There are far fewer today, and even fewer bargains: a lot of stuff goes straight onto the internet.

I can tell a sort of reverse story, though. About 30-35 years ago there was a 'baby' Linhof outfit for sale in a Bristol shop: ST IV, 2 backs, 3 lenses (including a 100/2.8 Planar). It was there for over a year at GBP 850. Eventually they took the 350 I offered them, "no guarantee, and we never see it again."

Cheers,

R.

That's funny Roger. Happened to me exactly the same with a Linhof 70 and three lenses and two backs in the original alu case. Although it was not a Planar but a Xenotar. Waited for two years. Got it for 400 Euro's.

Cheers,

Michiel Fokkema

You still have shops with serious cameras in them? Lucky you. Which ones did you buy?

I was somewhere a while ago and there on a shelf was what looked like a M4 in it's box at about £400 I asked and it was just the empty box they were selling...

Regards, David

Of course! This is Japan: photographic centre of the universe! 😀

Have a look at these mob - http://www.matsumoto-camera.com/, then click on "Leica" in the upper left. I reckon I might do a holiday in Osaka and stop by. Their prices seem reasonable.

And, no, I didn't buy anything from that store where @jonmanjiro took the pic. They're quite expensive for camera bodies. I only buy CV lenses from there.
