SpiderHolster -- Probably stressful, yes?

I use the SpiderHolster camera belt for my DSLRs when on paid assignments. I have always been weary about attempting to use them with my Leicas, as the method for fastening the camera to the belt is to hang them upside down via their tripod socket.

Being that the tripod socket is part of the base plate on the M8 and M9, secured with just a little nub on one of the two ends, I have always been under the impression that this piece of metal would not be able to handle the stress of being hung by the tripod socket upside down and then bounced around as I walk about.

My current method of using Leicas are to sling them over my shoulders. Would my analysis be correct?

I love my Spider Holster, but I wouldn't want to trust that Leica Baseplate to it.

I don't get the fascination with trying to re-invent the wheel ie companies trying to get you to buy something else that (only my opinion) you don't need, what wrong with a normal neck strap.
I also feel if the camera strap or fixings fail when using a normal strap and the proper eyelets you would get some sympathy from the manufacturer.

Wow (I would normally say 'no offence intended') but do you guys seriously use one of them? Is it not terrible uncomfortable. The thought of carrying my D3 like that makes me wince.
Not only that and more importantly, it looks a bit silly

With the weight of DSLRs and their accompanied flashes? Yes, I find it more comfortable to transfer the weight to my hips rather than pulling down on my shoulders. With a wedding every weekend, I absolutely must find the most comfortable way to hold the heavy beasts and I have found this to be the most comfortable solution I've used.

I have incorporated rangefinders for reception shots but only have used neck straps. There isn't a problem with this; I simply wanted to validate my concern that the baseplate is likely too weak to be used in the same manner that the DSLRs are being hung.

You carried a Canon 1DMkIV with an 80-200 2.8 L around your neck for awhile? The spider holster is a real neck saver. And I can simply pull the DSLR out of the holster and stick my video camera in there in a few seconds, when I have to shoot video and stills at the same time. It solves real world problems.
