I have had an M6 for about a month. I have only shot about 1.5 rolls of film so far. I have a soft release button on. It is very touchy to get a meter reading because of this "spongy" effect. When half pressed, then released, the button does not "pop" back up, but slowly rises. It also affects getting the meter reading because I have to press slowly and carefully in order to stop before the shuuter fires.

Is this normal for an M6 shutter button? If not, can a local repair shop fix it or will I need to send it to Sherry or DAG for fixing?

Thanks

Try and see if the shutter button responds the same way WITHOUT the soft release accessory. If it does , the camera needs to be serviced. This happened to my M6 and it got so bad you could press the shutter release button all the way down as far as it would go and the shutter would not fire. I sent it to Leica USA bcs I did not know any better. The repair was fine but they charged a lot. Today, I'd send it to Sherry and the bill would probably be half of what Leica USA charged....
