I just received a couple of lenses in the mail that I bought on the 'bay and am looking for advice on how best to test them for focussing accuracy and overall image quality. I realise that I have never tested any two lenses in the same way. So I am looking to develop a standard set of tests for new (to me) lenses. Do you have a standard set of tests that you run all of your new lenses through? Any advice on setting up and interpreting the tests would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe sort a few compositions to photograph, such as the stripey poster on the wall, and ornaments in the garden. You can test bokeh and clarity since the compositions are still life, and easy to measure distances etc.

Use the finest grain film you can get hold of. No less than Ilford Pan F+ 50

That's what I try and do, that's why all my test shots are in the garden, or the park around the corner from the house. It's easy to compare images when the subject is the same
