All you shooters out there in Vietnam .

I hear that Starbucks is opening in Vietnam on Thurs.
Might make a great great shoot . Camera and Coffee.

Tom A if you leave right now you could make it .

Heh.. VN has coffee coming out the wazoo. There are coffee cafes everywhere to fit every budget. Although I'm sure Starbucks will do well. No one goes to Starbucks for the coffee, they're there to look cool.

I did not even know for a long time, what Star**cks is. But I tried recently and this "Coffee" or whatever this stuff is supposed to be, is undrinkable.

No service either. Never again. Bad experience.

I wish Starbucks was there when it was all kicking off, those corporate, tax dodging scumbags. Only yuppies and tossers use such an outlet.

Highlands Coffee. Is that Ca phe Cao Nguyen? It used to be sold here in the USA in a blue 15 oz can. I have been unable to find it any more. I don't even think it is being sold in Viet Nam. Sad, as it most closely resembled the coffee I used to drink when I was there. And I don't even remember any brands. You just went to at restaurant and ordered ca phe, or to a coffee shop and ordered as much as you wanted to take home.

No sir, it's not. Highlands Coffee is somewhat like Starbucks, but with "real" Coffee. They serve Coffee or sell it as a bag of raw Coffee, not in Can.

Yep, as I mentioned, that is how I remember it being sold (that was 40 years ago), assuming it is the same as I used to get. But there was a Ca Phe Cao Nguyen sold here for several years, but I can no longer find it. I just missed a case of it due to illness preventing me from recontacting the seller. I have one can of Tay Nguyen left. When that is gone I guess it is back to Cafe Du Monde. 😱

Thanks for your reply. I have often thought it would be interesting to visit Vietnam again. Some of us used to say it was a beautiful country except for the war. And it was. Also I found the people to be very friendly. But I don't think it would be worth the cost to me, plus which I would worry a little about the current government.

The government is better, but as you said, maybe it is not worth it. As I remembered when I was young, it was a really beautiful country. Time has passed, it changed, and I cant realize it.
Well, I am studying abroad now.
If you live in the States and lucky enough, you can have Vietnam shop near you which has G7 or Highlands Coffee. That's good enough.
Aaaa, i have found this, do you mention this thing?

VN coffee is dark roasted with a distinctive taste, perhaps of chickory. Highlands and Trung Nuyen are the common brand names but methinks that's just marketing. I somehow doubt the estates are large enough to claim single origin status. The roasters are likely buying from various small farms and mixing the beans all together. In my limited experience home brewing the stuff, sample variation in the retail packets of coffee powder is high.
