Statues, Public art

Jim Morrison sculpture on his grave at Père Lachaise Cemetery in Paris. I took this photo in 1988. Shortly afterwards, the sculpture was stolen. Recently, the French police accidentally discovered it. I hope it will be placed on Jim Morrison's grave again. At that time I was a big Doors fan.

Photo probably taken with Nikon FE2 and AIS Nikkor 50mm/1.4. Scanned with Leica CL, Fococtar-2 50mm, using Leitz BEOON.

Artwork at the border between Konstanz/Germany and Kreuzlingen/Switzerland. On the left is Germany, on the right side Switzerland.

In the past, there were a fence. In the dark history, the fence was called "Judenzaun" or "Asylantenzaun". It made it impossible for jewish or other by the Nazi gouvermant traced people to escape to Switzerland. Anyway, the Swiss did not want any refugees and pushed them back. The fence remained after WW II until 1999.

After a long time discussion, the fence was removed and replaced by the artwork. The border is now open and can be crossed by pedestrians. Swiss authorities are sometimes present and perform random inspections. A CCTV surveillance system is installed by the Swiss authorities.

During COVID-19, a mobile fence had been temporarily installed and led to protest by the citizens.

Parque Central, Havana - Cuba has many statues of Jose Marti, (1853-1895) Cuban nationalist, poet, philosopher, and journalist who led the fight for Cuban independence from Spain. In the background is the Capitol, by design one meter taller than the US Capitol and the Gran Teatro, home of the Cuban National Ballet, built in 1914.
