Hi everyone. I'm new to the forum and I'm looking forward to the wealth of knowledge here as well as contributing to the community.

I'm posting here to let folks know that Steve Serota recently passed away. He ran an online camera repair shop from his home just outside of Philadelphia called Classic Camera Workshop and before that Camera Care in Center City, Philadelphia.

I had a number of my c-mount lenses and a GH1 camera still with him and picked them up at his home recently.

His wife asked me to let folks know of his passing on the different photography forums in order to let folks know who may have known him or in case they still have lenses or cameras at his shop.

I wrote some reflections that you can read on my blog under Steve Serota Classic Camera Workshop.

We seldom hear stories of the guys who are still around who are able to restore and make new our vintage lenses and cameras. It's a rare find these days to find folks like Steve and I just want to give my kudos and respect to those folks who continue their labor of love restoring classic lenses and cameras.

Here' a quick pic from one of the lenses that Steve restored for me, a Yvar 75mm f/2.8 c-mount.

This was taken on my drive back from Steve's house. This is the beautiful Chinatown Arch in Philadelphia. Steve's old camera shop was just a few blocks from this arch. Here's to you Steve!

I am very sorry to hear about Steve passing away. My condolences to his family and friends.

I had a Canon 50/0.95 converted to M by him. May he rest in peace...

He had my F3 for over a year now. Talked to me on the phone before Christmas. Sent him money 3 different times. Camera still there. No response to my E-mails. Phone not answered. I want the camera back. It would be nice if maybe the last $75 was returned too.

I just want my camera back!

Perhaps you should start another thread "I want my camera back" etc.
The OP started this one to share a sense of loss in the passing of a man known to some, here on RFF. Maybe we should suspend our other material concerns just for a moment. Does that sound like too much to ask for ?

Yes, well unfortunately there are two sometimes unavoidable risks of doing business with small operations that we all must accept: death and bankruptcy - that's just the breaks. (My condolences to the family and friends). I lost an order from a camera store in New Orleans that was wiped out by Katrina - so I guess I should add "acts of God" to the list.
