Stevie Nicks: The Queen of Selfies

Come on guys, surely you can think of something you don't like, maybe, her current hair color, or her choice in restaurants? Find something!

To be honest, I was never a fan of her pop music...but I do like her selfies.
Being this is RFF, I wonder which Polaroid camera she might have used?

I grew up in segregated '60s St Louis, where small bars would have bluesmen like Howlin Wolf. I only talked to him once when I had him sign an album for a girlfriend of mine, at the time I remember how really huge his hands were. One night a local radio station said, "don't miss the integrated band," turned out to be Paul Butterfield and Muddy Waters.

Very cool. Sounds like you saw some good shows there.

OT: I like Stevie Nicks' pictures. Not the best I've ever seen but certainly interesting pics of a pretty lady.

Amazing blues from New Orleans to Chicago, and all points in between. Lasted until the '70s. Chicago was amazing.

I bought some $3 tickets to hear a "some English band" that was playing the night after Dylan in Chicago (Arie Crown Theater, McCormick Place), just because we were in the city two days, turned out to be the Rolling Stones! :)

We bought the expensive tickets for Dylan, the cheap ones for that "English band."

I would have loved to see Dylan back then. Was he electric at that point? I've had Bringing It All Back Home on heavy rotation lately.

I was there.
In the area we were sitting, there was a *lot* of boo-ing, but the papers didn't write it up as much.
Pretty anxious situation actually.
My friends and I argued all the way back to NYC.
That turned out to be a big day in the trajectory of popular music .

I was not in Newport, I was linking to the concert in Chicago. I heard Bloomfield with Paul Butterfield, but no idea the year, it was pre-video.

Youtube is film, so dark, kind of mysterious. Complaints about the mic, but it seems pretty clear?

They were still booing in Chicago, months later, but so not much as I remember. But gezz that was 50 years ago.

Yeah, that Chicago newspaper link to the Dylan concert was in November of 65 and Dylan had already gone electric live at that Newport Folk Festival of July 25th, 65.

I would loved to have heard and seen Mike Bloomfield and Bob Dylan live at that Newport Folk Festival on that summer's eave in 1965.

The Maggie's Farm film clip is fine, I just wish more light was in the background, to spec out Mike Bloomfield doing what he did best.

. . . . I think fans thought they were "supposed" to boo.
. . . .

I agree with you. It was very sudden and confusing and we were all looking at each other for how to react. I was a real "folkie" and in shock, and kind of a bit paralyzed.

Only four months, and no one had the internet to measure time. I think fans thought they were "supposed" to boo.

I had one friend who listened to Dylan rather than attending classes, he went, did not boo. I missed Woodstock, but lots of my classmates went. Who knew?

Dylan was already starting to record his album "Highway 61 Revisited" in June of 65 (the album came out in August of 65) and it featured the electric guitar work of Mike Bloomfield on that LP.

But by and large, the fans thought that he was still folky acoustic at Newport in 1965 and many did not like the new electric Dylan, so some booed, they got over it in time.

I like the often told fable of Pete Seeger threatening to cut the power cable to Bloomfield's dimed Epiphone Futura tube amp when Bloomfield was going all out with his searing lead guitar work at Newport.

But what about the Nikon SP?

And Dylan's Triumph tee-shirt.

I must have gotten my fascination with the Nikon SP and 1960's stripped rugby shirts off that album cover and it is still with me to this very day.

This is how less than subliminal advertising works on young minds, and once they got you, you are hooked for a life time.

I bet Dylan's selfies with that Nikon SP, if there are any, are more interesting then Stevies'! :p

And yet not everyone likes or admires Dylan. Joni Mitchell has no time for him or his music at all apparently.

Funny, it is ok that YOU say this Keith, but to those that happen to dislike or not admire Stevie Nicks and her music/art, it is somehow not ok. One can argue here ad infinitum, ad nauseam... Don't mean to just single you out, but I always thought this forum was democratic. Apparently it's not. No one has insulted anyone. Just a critical personal observation was made. At least I was. Yet, somehow that was not ok.

I really don't quite see where you're going with all this ... I was merely making the point that any public figure or celebrity will have their haters or detractors and Nicks is no different. I like her you don't .... I like Dylan but Joni Mitchell doesn't. The world keeps turning though! :)

Bingo !

A very true and astutely sharp observation and commentary.

I personally like to move on and talk about other things than Stevie Nicks.

People should be allowed to like what they like and to dislike what they dislike.

I still think labeling someone as a narcissist based on their desire to do self prortrature for whatever reason during their career is harsh ... and I'll stand by that opinion sorry.

I'm also happy to agree to disagree but I will express my opinion ... as you did. :)

I agree with you on that last bit, but to set the record straight, someone else stated she was a narcissist. I can't call anyone names I don't know personally!

That is fine with me Keith.

And I will point out that I never accused you of that remark. :)

Not everyone likes or admires self portraits Fred, whether they are by Rembrandt, Van Gogh, Countess Castiglione or Ms Nicks.
