The Industar 22 I'm using on my Leica IIf has a very stiff aperature ring. So much so that I can only move it by putting my fingernail into the indicator slot and exerting a great amount of force. Even then, it tends to shoot from one end of it's rang to the other. Getting it into the right spot isn't easy.

So, what's the best way to get this ring off to lube it? I've looked at the instructions at jay.fedka.com, but they seem more focused on lubing the focusing ring than the aperature dial.

i don't know if this is best way but I had a I-22 with a stiff aperature ring and i used a drop or two of lighter fluid and this seemed to break down the grease or what ever was holding up the movement. I started with a drop and moved the ring until loose. I had read of this solution from somewhere else. Becareful not to get any on the lens or inside.

Seemed to work OK after the lighter fluild.

The lighter fluid solution hides to peoblem but will not fix it. It is OK where you need to clean things which run without lubrication like leaf shutter but for helixs etc, you need to clean and regrease.

I am about to have a look at mine. I will check tonight or tomorrow and post instructions.

Wondering if you were able to resolve the aperture ring issue?

When you take the lens apart, you'd be able to access the aperture ring. Lighter fluid should free it up- there's hardly anything much happening inside so flushing with some lighter fluid can help.

I did and I didn't have to take the lens apart.

I had some of that Radio Shack gel lubricant, which has a needle nose point on it. So, I used that to inject the lub under the aperture ring and then turned the ring to work it in. Solved the problem.

I've since acquired an Elmar and traded that lens to another forum member for a J-8, which I will have to disassemble to relub. Guess I couldn't cheat forever, huh? 😀
