Every time I price new and used Leica lenses - I thank someone for my G2 outfit. The Contax lenses are also less than half the price of the new Zeiss lenses. Regular Voigtlander lenses seem reasonably priced but most don't test out as well as the above brands. I am spending a lot of time looking for usable lenses for my new M3. Have definitely caught the Rangefinder bug. Cheers :p

I love my G2 set, and if you look carefully, there are places you can get the 45mm for $180, new. It's a great camera when you just don't want to deal with figuring out exposure.

Oh.. the M stuff is hazardous. There's no cure for the bug now that you've caught it. ph34r. :D

When I look at the prices of the new Zeiss Ikon, I fall in love with my g2 more and More.

I hope the Contax g Series is brought back into production.

I really like my G2 also, but I'm sure it won't go back into production. A fine system, but dead dead dead. And that's surely a major factor in the low prices, also that it's inconsistent with any other system.

Kyocera (which purchased Yashica which had purchased the Tomioka lens plant) has announced it's out of the camera biz, except for components for cell phones and such. Their arrangement with Carl Zeiss to manufacture Zeiss lenses is gone, the Tomioka factory shut down, and Zeiss is working with a new Japanese partner now. :(

I bought a second G2 body as a spare and backup, as looking down the road, support and repairs seem iffy. It was the 21mm Biogon that drove me into the system, and it got out of hand from there... I certainly want to make sure I can continue to use all that lovely glass!

I'm planning to buy a second G2 body for back-up. In case my G2 fails. But I've heard the contax gear will be serviced for some years to come ! I hope i start a discussion by saying that the G leneses are optically the best on the market today!

Jaap, I have it from Kyocera in Hamburg that they will service the G1 and G2 for some years.

Today I sent my G1 in for the ROM update and a qoute for repairs which may be needed.

I've been using for the G1 for about 8 months now, and I love it. Sometime along the way, I do plan on getting a G2, and both the 21 Biogon and 90 Sonnar. Can't wait! :)

If you like a g1 you will certanly like a g2. In my opinion you have to be carefull with the 90 mm in focussing. I always use the 90mm in MF mode that works perfectly for me. But the G2 can focus very accurate considering that the 90 mm focus from 1m to 1,01m in 3steps!!
Try that with a ZI or a M series!!!

LOL I would love to try the M series one day. And I think I will. But now, since the prices for the G system is going as it is, I'm gonna get the things I need and be happy with the full on system before I move on to something else. :D

I bought a brand-new-in-box 45mm Planar from Central Camera (off their web site) for $189; I see they've raised it to $249... :( Sometimes KEH offers new gear as well.

You know........being out of production can also add value to our equipment as well. Look at what Zeiss Ikon's sold for 40 years after their final production run. I am going to continue to add to my G2 system because I love the results the camera produces. Now if I could only find a 90mm front cover for my G2 case........ and a 35-70 zoom lense new in the box.

Well, it IS a little difficult to determine the actual price of some items at Central Camera because you have to hit the button to put it in your shopping cart, and then go to examine the contents of the cart to see the real price, if lower than that displayed in the catalog listing.
