Thanks again everybody,
It was a Black Paint MP with M3 style rewind, Classic Leica engraving on top and the serial number is MP-3516602. I'm sorry but I don't have the serial number of the 50mm Summicron APO yet. As far as making mistakes go, I was going to ask him "why would you leave your camera in your car?" but I figured that was the last thing that he wanted to hear from a friend so I didn't ask him.
Thanks again everybody, I passed on all your information.
Cheers, michael

Dear Michael,. . . I was going to ask him "why would you leave your camera in your car?" but I figured that was the last thing that he wanted to hear from a friend so I didn't ask him. . .
Exactly. Friends like you are worth having.
Cheers,

That's bloody awful news, so sorry to read it. Can't imagine how you must be feeling. I just hope some or all of it turns up. Sounds like there were quite a few individual items taken so perhaps it may increase the chances of at least some of it being traced when it's being offloaded? Any possibility insurance may cover some of your losses? I would assume you've investigated any possible security vision of the location for leads, right? Sending my best wishes.

Thank you, Brett, that helps. At this point it seems kind of life changing, now just trying to settle in and see what I can do in the future with what I have left. Man plans, God laughs, as they say.
Have spent several hours doing police reports, and I did manage to find serial numbers on every big item save one, which surprised me. I will go ahead and give the serial number for the RX1 to that site that scans exit data on pictures posted on the web, and sent an email to Leica trying to find out how to enter the things onto their database, but have not heard back yet from them. Other than that I don't know what to do. Somebody has some nice things they didn't have to work for, is I guess how this ends up.
Insurance not proving to be much help; security cameras, like a lot of them, don't save footage for very long, tv crime shows being not so realistic in this respect.
It's a real downer, that's for sure; if I were younger it wouldn't seem so bad.
On a brighter note, the week before I left I processed a roll from a Spotmatic and 1.4/50 Takumar and the results were so nice I wondered at the time if I really needed anything else.
Anyway, thanks for the good wishes, was appreciated.

If the thieves can't get a return from the regular re-sellers -it's a 35mm camera, they might just dish it. Offer a modest reward and see what happens.
