I love my M8. Finally some common sense.

The magenta problem is easily fixed in photoshop in less than 60 seconds.

Here's how i did it.
I used the eyedropper to measure the density of the area with the most obvious problem. It was at 64. I went to the magenta channel in curves and clicked at 64.
I lightened it 8 points. GONE IN 60 SECONDS. End of story.

Not quite; you eliminated all real magenta as well and changed all other colours towards cyan.....But this quick and dirty trick works well on some shots.

If by a love-fest you mean people who own the camera trading tips and techniques to get better results, sounds good to me.

If there was a B+W film forum I'd expect to find useful info on various emulsions, developers, etc. Not someone jumping in the middle of a discussion on Tri-X shouting B+W SUCKS it's not even in COLOR! You people are a bunch of blind lemmings!

Discussion forums tend to form around people who share a common interest. No surprise that if it's a Leica M8 forum that it will attract people who use and like the camera. I really dislike the ergonomics of the Canon digitals, however I don't feel any compelling need to share my negative opinion of the camera on Canon forums with users of the camera. I find that sort of behaviour strange to say the least. Different strokes.

I find in general that threads that are negative or contentious have very little in the way of useful information. The more threads you get like that the lower the value of any particular forum. So I'm all for the moderators being proactive.

Exactly; and then if you tell them they're being a little trollish, they cry back saying that maybe you don't like hearing somebody else's opinion. Delivery, people. Manners. Honesty doesn't mean lack of civility. Or a very predictable "but B&W sucks and you know it, and it's defective and you're making excuses for it, and color is much better!"

Tests conducted at MIT in the 1920's demonstrated that screws driven in with a hammer held substantially better than screws driven in with a screwdriver.

One should point out, though, that this was before the invention of the Fischer plug, and only very shortly after the invention of the Rawl plug. With plugs, screwing screws in has the upper hand. 😛

Truth is how many chances do you get to drop a actual fact like that into any discussion?

I admit I like III f and M2 Leicas. That said, why would one spend about 7K for the M8, a camera and lens that the Leica V-LUX 1 can equal if not surpass? It has 10 MP and its Leica lens is 35 to over 400. It also costs less than one thousand US. Is the quality of the product that different? I hope to see proof that is worth more than 5K$. Please advise.

Of course, there is a bias against the Japanese. Why else do you think this forum exists? 😉

But on the other hand, maybe it has something to do with the fact that the sensor on the M8 is about 10X bigger, has much better low light capabilities, and uses the finest glass every produced for a camera.

Or maybe it's a plot

Are you saying that the Leica El Marit on this V-LUX 1 is inferior to other Leica lenses? Curious. If so, can you show me the difference that justifies the extra cost? I would like to know. Give me a PM answer please.

BTW, I am seriously considering the V-LUX-1. I use the Nikon 5400 with a 2X extender. See my site here for samples. I also use a 50mm summicron collapsible and a 50mm Summitar plus Russian Zeiss 35mm and 85mm.
