Story: Photography was dead by 1972

Odd article..... but I love the quote "The first person who twigged was Henri Cartier-Bresson. He just stopped – and started painting and drawing. God, he was useless"

'The man who shot the sixties' on BBC4.

Best keep the title in mind, since the show aired yesterday evening and we have no reception of BBC4 on the mainland...

Bummer. From reading this I was looking forward to seeing that documentary...

Thanks for the HU Bill, very civil of you :D

Sorry to say I could not find any podcast information. Don't know if it could be found via Hulu or whatever. If I find anything, I'll post it.

Great story. Could this quirky act be explained by the time period? Was anyone doing drugs then in the glamor industries of modeling, photography, arts, etc.?

Great stuff- thanks for the post!

As for his contention that everything had been done by 1972, well, yes, he may have a point. Brings to mind that old saw about there being nothing new under the sun. But since I was born in 1972, and obviously all of my photography has been done since, I'll have to choose to ignore this bit of conventional wisdom, and keep hoping I can make some at least decent pictures, if not entirely new and ground breaking ones.
