I just picked up an old Saymon-Brown accessory rangefinder, and I'm trying to make sense of the chrome attachment on the side. On one of the pictured examples, there's an adapter that looks like it allows the rangefinder to fit onto a standard accessory shoe. On the other, which looks just like mine, the foot of the clip is much smaller. For the life of me, I can't figure out what it would clip onto. Any guesses?

My guess and its only a guess is that the other "foot" is not designed to go on a camera directly. Its designed to take an adapter like the one shown. Its possible that this came with a couple of different adapters to allow the rangefinder to fit onto different cameras (different height / offset etc maybe.)

I guess it's the adapter, versus the foot on the rangefinder that has me perplexed. Judging by the photo on the right, they made one for the standard sized accessory shoe. I'm stuck as to what the dinky one that I've got (identical to the one on the left) might fit.
For what it's worth, the two circular end caps are slightly different thicknesses, but they allow the finder to be mounted vertically in an accessory shoe.
