I first noticed that my m6ttl was have problems with winding a couple of weeks ago, I first noticed it at the Thai wedding that I photographed.....it only happened about 2 or 3 times but I could tell that the frame did not advance fully......I got really worried and started to pay close attention to it after that and it didn't happen for the rest of the night.....
I was relieved when I got back 20 rolls and only 3 photos were double exposed...
for the last month I have been paying close attention to the rewind dial and seeing if it rotates properly.....well, I had a roll that had 5 or 6 double exposed photos on it and I noticed it right away as I was using the camera and was bummed.......
well something happened yesterday that has never happened in 11 years of using this camera......the film snapped of the roll......I knew it as soon as I tried to rewind the film and felt no resistance, I knew right away that the film got torn out of the cassette , but I did not feel any resistance at all when I was advancing the film....
I just did a "test" on my camera and put a body cap on it and ran 10 rolls of different types of film through it, different brands of film and different rolls....I did not experience any problems at all.....at around the 36th exposure the film winder lever would stop and I would rewind the film....I did this 10 times and did not have any double exposures or any problems with film resistance around the 36th frame.....
I think I just had a couple of "badly made rolls of film", but I will keep a close eye on it and see what happens.........
I am going for a 2 week photo trip up the Mekong River on Monday and I will bring my m2 as a back up camera, but I am really hoping that was a problem with the film and not the camera.....I should mention, on the roll that I knew had double exposed 5 or 6 frames, I did a strange test with it....I put the roll in the camera after it was already rolled up and rewinded it again and felt a lump (bump) every time I wound the film.....that has never happened before with any other roll of film as I was rewinding them.......
anyways, the type of film that I have had problem with is all the same film (Kodak pro Image 100) so I am hoping that there was a "problem" on their part and not with my camera.....here are some photos

this has never happened in 11 years of using this camera....I felt no resistance at all

you can see the sprocket holes ripped up here, but I felt no resistance at all when I got to the 36th frame

some more shots from the roll....something interesting happened, between some of the double exposed photos, I would get normal "full frame photos".....very random.....

I had a full CLA on my m6ttl by Sherry K about 2 years ago so I am not really sure what is going on.....for now, I am going to blame it on the film, but if it happens agains during my trip, I will switch to using my M2 as my main camera.......any comments or suggestions/thoughts would be appreciated...
cheers, michael
