Was out taking pictures today with a Rolleiflex, and a stranger commented that it was a nice camera and he used to have a camera similar to it.

Then he asked, "How do you get your pictures? Do you take it in and have them process it with ultrasound?"

Now I don't know if he was just at a loss for the correct word, but "ultrasound"? Sheesh. That is pretty clueless.

Not really a question, but a comment by a young 20-something looking into the focus hood of a Rolleiflex with a Maxwell screen- "Whoa, what a great LCD!!"

Out with a plywood and cardboard 4X5 pinhole and a young lady wanted to know if she could see the picture right after I put the dark slide in and flipped the film holder over.

Sep 1, school, Ikoflex. Is it possible to get film for this?

After I replied, man who asked me told he had mixed his own developer using hydroquinone.

Q. "Are you a sexual deviant?"

A. "You'll need to ask my wife."

I can only assume this was due to my picture taking as the answer either satisfied or perplexed him enough for him to wander off without further comment.

It's a wonderfully odd world.

"I love those old film cameras!" Refering to the M8 hanging around my neck ... excusable I guess! LOL 😀

Yes, the X100S is great for that type of comment. Even my family can't tell it apart from actual vintage stuff like a Fed or Zorki. I guess the silver & black combo is really that uncommon.

The weirdest comment I've had was when I was out shooting with a Minox 35 GT. I snap a pic, and suddenly a very British gentleman appears (I'm in the Netherlands, so you don't expect one.) and he goes: "Oh you're a big lad, why are you shooting with such a tiny camera?".

Mind you, I'm 1.82 and this gentleman was around chest high to me. "You should get one of these", he goes, and shows me an older film EOS.

I did feel a tad self conscious with the tiny Minox after that, so immediately bought some extra Minolta SLR's 😀

While I was taking photos with my Rolleiflex:
1.
Q: What is this?
A: A camera.
Q: can I see the photo?
A: not now, after development
Q: Why?

2.
While a kid was watching with the Maxwell screen with the lens retracted: "wow! A 3D movie!"

Recently, I was asked by someone if my camera (Hasselblad 500 c/m) is a movie camera... He went on talking, stating that he was into movie filming and that he always thought that he knew all movie cameras, but my particular camera, well, he never saw one like that before. Hasselblad? Never heard of that, he said. I tried to explain to him that it is not a movie camera, but he kept on asking questions related to movie cameras. *sigh*

"Can you still get film for that?" always makes me smile - no, I'm just pointing it at people for fun. Though, having said that, unless someone has a 118 spool and backing paper hanging around they'd like to donate, I do have an Edwardian No 3 Folding Pocket Kodak, which I do have to use cut paper in.

My teen son just came back from school camp. He took a film camera because there was a "no electronics" rule. I asked how many photos he took. "Just a few. But they might not all turn out." Why not? "Because I had to open the back to show people the film in it."
