There are many ingenious features of this camera, including the original design of two lugs and hanging vertically. It is very comfortable and unobtrusive and secure in that position. I recently acquired a new A&A strap especially designed for the M5, but only inasmuch as the width of the nylon fits the lugs. The two strap ends are attached, one to each lug. What works best, however, is a strap that glides freely through the two lugs, so that with a good gripping shoulder pad, the strap can glide down through the lugs as the camera is quickly brought up to the eye. With the great grip of the A&A strap it virtually needs removing from the shoulder to get the camera to the eye. All forum discussions seem to miss this essential feature of the Leitz designers' intention of solid strap lugs, vertical hanging, and the free running strap. I have tried joining the two ends of my new strap together and it gets close, but I suspect leather runs better than the nylon. I am going to look for a second hand leather original, unless someone knows of an alternative that has all the features of the original.
