Straps and things

I need to pick the brains of those more knowledgeable than I.

So I reckon RFF is the best place to ask about this sort of thing.

The Fuji strap is... okay I guess.

However the camera is nice and small and the strap adds substantially to the overall bulk when putting the camera in a jacket pocket for example.

What I'd like to do is find a nice wrist strap and neck strap that can be easily changed one for the other. They must look good: no neoprene monstrousities need apply.

I would use the wrist strap for those occasions where I want to keep the camera in my pocket, and the neck strap for more relaxed carry-the-camera-all-day affairs.

Come to think of it, if anyone has any brilliant suggestions I might apply the solution to my Zeiss Ikon too.

Actually I can get to Red Dot in my lunch break if I don't dawdle, so I might go have a look. The only thing that puts me off slightly is the price, £89 for a strap is more than I had been anticipating.

So any alternative suggestions would also be welcome.

I also was in search of a great looking strap for my camera-leathered OM1, it took me a year to find this one :

This strap is made of extremely soft leather which wraps up around a camera like a silk ribbon. Also it is easy to fold the neckstrap around your hand RF wise.
Being wrapped around the shape of the camera it is smallish.
I highly recommend this strap !

The Leica wrist strap looks a bit thick to me.

I was really looking for a quick-release system which would allow me to easily swap between the neck strap and a wrist strap.

I like the thin leather strap, but I am getting the leather case and strap when they arrive at Robert White, who generously bundled it in with their first pre-orders.

The silk cord is the frontrunner atm, but it is *gulp* expensive. I suppose it will last for many many years. (See I'm trying to talk myself into it.)

I have one of these straps sitting around the house http://amzn.to/foTEoI it is much shorter and smaller than it appears in the photo and is a perfect fit for the X100 in my opinion. I blacked out the logo with a Sharpie. It's not the best-looking strap ever made but it may be the most comfortable. It also may be the most inexpensive.

A simple solution

I make hand straps (not wrist straps) from loops of parachute cord. Have been doing so since my Olympus OM-1.

Here's an example on an Olympus E-620.

I use the orange cord on the left strap lug to hook a Y-Strap (similar to the leicagoodies Strap).

Is this too crude a solution for a camera as pretty as the X100? 😉

Erm, yes it is too ugly for the X100. Might get one for my Canon though. 🙂

i like gordy's... got a wrist strap and a single ring attach point strap that I as a cross body sling.

I swap between the both depending on whether I have a bag or just out with a camera.
