Well-known
Well it is the biggest fininacial crisis since the Great Depression, so the media coverage is warranted. If you're sick of it, no one is forcing you to watch TV or listen to the radio. Just tune out and go for a walk. I never complain about the "mainstream media" because I only consume it when I want to - via the internet or public radio.

...millions of people's lives are/will be effected.
Will their dictionaries be 'effected' also?

People used to work hard and make money, then they played the stock market and suddenly feel that they're entitled to make money on the stock market which is basically gambling.
Exactly, there are too many squealers saying they 'lost' money when all they did was to buy low, saw a rise on paper, and a now a dip on paper.
They have lost nothing at all.
It reminds me of all those dinner parties in London where people brag about how much their home is 'worth', and then scream when there is a downturn and it is 'worth' less than before but still ten times what they paid for it.

Very confused
I'm reminded of my father's definition of a stockbroker, as "someone who looks after your money until it's all gone".
On a more serious note, I think your (OP) decision (and mine, for me) should be based on an honest assessment of one's motives. There are many possible laudable reasons for wanting to make pictures of folks in distress, and the reverse is also true. I doubt if anyone would seriously question Dorothea Lange's motives for making "Migrant Mother".

... I'm beginning to have second thoughts about my original idea when I started this thread.
... so you're going to take their pictures?

You obviously don't own any stocks.
This is a big deal, and millions of people's lives are/will be effected.
Dear Frank,
Don't bet more than you can afford to lose.
If you do, and lose your money -- don't snivel.
That is a large part of any 'crash': people who DIDN'T have the money, complaining becase they have lost it.
Financially, I'm a complete coward. My track record with 'fairy gold' on both the stock market and the financial market is superb. I could be a billionaire -- if I were brave enough, or stupid enough, to risk what little money I have. But I'm not. And I can't feel much sympathy with the foolhardy.
Cheers,
R.

Roger, I hope you didn't mean to suggest that my post was snivelling.
(I don't own an stocks personally, though my pension plan is investment based.)
I was commenting on the OP's self-centered view of being sick of the media coverage and the implication that it was sensationalizing the situation in order to sell the news.
I'll restate that it is big, and many lives are affected (thanks Jon) whether deservable or not.

Dear Frank,
No, of course not, and I apologize for writing something that could even be taken that way. It was in the nature of a general exhortation to those who have bet more than they can afford, and are now snivelling.
Once again, my apologies for not making that clearer. That you could misread it, and that I didn't think of it, is one of the drawbacks of the internet.
Cheers,
Roger

Thanks Roger. Since you addressed me in your post, I misread it that way, and was surprised.
Sorry, my mistake!

Ambitious, but rubbish
I will preface this by saying that I have not read all of the replies to this thread, so if I repeat something already said then I am sorry.
Firstly, if you really don't want to do it then... Don't do it. Simple enough, right? Secondly, if you did decide to do it, I would think of it more along the lines of documenting rather than gloating. Photographers documented the great depression, right?
