Anybody else bought some of the limited edition street photographs on offer at www.thestreetcollection.net ?

I bought two (couldn't help myself) - one by Matt Stuart and one by Markus Hartel. There are others I'd like but I also just bought four Turnley's from the Online Photographer :D

Cheers

Thanks for the tip. I might have to go for it. The prices are good and I actually liked some of these photos from the Street Photography Now book.

I also got two shots. Matt Stuart's pigeon shot aswell, and the stairs by Dakowicz.

The prices are bargains.

Regards,
Steve

Ok, bought the one by Nils Jorgensen... since it always stood out to me and I like looking at it. Would have bought the Matt Stuart one, but I was too late.

Yeah - I made sure I got in quick to get Matt's pigeon shot - I think it's the only one that's sold out.

Cheers

Anyone received a print from them (or a response to any e-mails)? I bought a print and never heard a thing. Tried e-mailing the person on my paypal. No dice.

They are limited to ten prints of each photograph.

Isn't that a bit artificial? A very long time ago, when I was a darkroom manager, my team would turn out hundreds of high quality prints from a negative, for advertising agencies, publicity departments and the like. Once you have the negative and know how you want to manipulate it, repeatability isn't an issue.

It's the whole point in the art world. To keep value you restrict the number of prints. What's the value of something that's available ad infinitum?

That makes it sound rather like a cynical confidence trick, doesn't it? Surely no sensible person would fall for that?

These are not Hallmark posters, but collectable original items. All original artwork is produced in limited numbers: etchings, lythography... art photography. You sound very naive thinking an artist has any interest in producing as many copies as he can. Knowing what makes his artwork valuable doesn't make him a con man.

Naive? I haven't been called that for a long time. Thanks for the compliment :D
