I wonder if the French conflict about retirement age really is about the age number itself, but rather about the government's failure to initiate a public discussion about this problem.
You are right, the conflict is not only about retirement age, but more against this government in general, who is refusing to listen to the people. Getting tired of all the laws they are passing to make poor people work more, and rich people pay less tax. And all their lies everyday, saying the opposite of what they are actually doing.
This is also following several scandals involving Sarkozy and other people from the government, showing that they are friend with some of the richest people in France, getting money from them and in exchange passing laws and doing other things to allow them to pay less tax.
And at the same time doing all they can to prevent the courts from doing investigations on this.
Some independent newspapers are talking about those scandals, doing investigations, trying to find proofs and publishing them. However Sarkozy himself has been ordering the French secret services to spy journalists from those newspapers to identify their sources.
I think people are getting tired of all this.
