For me, the wide angle makes you appear further than you really are from you subject; the telephoto appears closer than you really are; and the 50mm is the most realistic about your distance to the subject.

This vein of thought has come from analysizing photos I like. I imagine what it was like to take that photo and what the relationship in space was between the photographer and the subject. So many amazing of these amazing photographs come from shifts in angles, perspective and distance.

What do people like about the lowly 50mm?

Nowadays, wiith my SLRs I usually shoot with a 35-105 zoom and probably wind up m/l at 50 most of the time! Until recently, I never had a 35mm prime - but used my 28mm a lot and 50mm often plus, on "calm days" w/o caffiene my 105.

With RF I was "training" myself to use the 3.5cm - until this contest started. Now I using the 5.0cm f/l again!

The more things change....! 😀
