Streetshooting with a 28mm

while I do like 28mm there is one type of photograph that irks me every time and that's the far-away tiny person walking in a big scene.

I have never understood the appeal of this type of photograph, and almost always think to myself that the scene would be better without that person there.

of course there are exceptions, such as when you want to show scale, but generally when it comes to people you have to get CLOSE for a 28mm. which is why I like it when I go places with friends.

I find that shooting 28mm on the street works best for me. I think it's just wide enough without being too wide. 😀

I just discovered this thread -- great photos and interesting discussion! Thanks for starting it, Ed (and I really like your photos, here and on flickr). I've used 28 mainly for landscapes, where it's a staple along w/ a 50. I'm more comfortable using 35 or 50 for street photography. As others have said, 28 forces you to get closer to your subject, and that can mean out of one's comfort zone. Here is an early example for me. I was pretty close to the subject, and she looked up just as I snapped the shutter:
