Stripping Chrome

Is the chrome stripping process a hard one? I might be able to get my hands on a Leica M2 in rough shape (heavily marked, but no dents), and was thinking of doing a repaint. The only thing that has got me worried at this point is the process of stripping the chrome and nickel plating from the brass.

I'd love to hear from those that have stripped the chrome plating, as well as people who have thought about doing a Leica repaint in the past. Any input would be awesome!

I've not done it but much of the procedure requires acid and electricity to help strip off the chrome/nickel. This can cause deadly gasses to be produced.

Any auto chrome shop can do it fairly cheap since you will be supplying small parts..

Thanks! I'm going to try looking for a shop that strips chrome, but I'll have to do it myself if i dont end up finding one.

Home chrome stripping kits are easily available in most countries, just Google.
