Stuck shutter parts

Hello. For a few weeks now I have been trying to find a solution to my issue.
I ordered a Praktica BCA Electronic from Ebay for about £21 and it seemed great when I was trying out the camera, imitating taking pictures. Then when I tried to use the bulb setting, the mirror flipped up as if I were cocking it but the advance lever has been jammed and will stop halfway. The shutter is also now stuck. I contacted the seller (mind you it said working condition) and he was kind enough to refund me and let me keep it. So now It was approx. £8 for a lens (It was body only) Any suggestions? This is my first 35mm camera, and I have no battery.

Does this camera feature any mechanical speeds that will work without a battery? Some electronic shutters will have a speed that functions without the battery for emergency use. Sometimes the flash sync speed. If it does: set this speed and activate the shutter release. If this is of no help, a battery in good condition should indeed be inserted into the compartment as the previous person posting, suggested.

Thanks, I tried photrio but they seem to dislike 13 y/os from signing up.🙁
 
It's a lot friendlier over here than there, so you made a good choice. My goodness, when I was 13 I had a girl friend (Sheryl Felton), owned a motorcycle (small size Honda 65) and had a gun (20 gauge bolt action shotgun), and they won't let you join a public photography forum over at photrio? That's an example of why I'm still here and not there anymore.

Let us know what happens. Maybe the battery will fix it.

Here's a link to your camera's manual. Your camera will take some really good lenses, but you may be happier w/ one of the Japanese cameras like ab AE-1 as they tend to be very reliable and cheap to buy.

Thank you and I take it you are from the US? I'm in UK so no shotguns here except for clay shooting 😀
 
Hi, MigMug, and Welcome! I wonder: Does the camera have film. in it? If it's at the end of the roll, that might cause the advance to appear jammed, and might even explain the hung mirror (not sure about that part).

No, the camera is not loaded. It came with a roll, but the date was 11/2006, maybe nearly as old as me. and thanks.
 
Shutter/advance lever was stuck on my Minolta CLE. I took it in to a local shop and the problem was that the shutter hadn't fully gone back to its centered "resting" position after the last frame on the previous roll (vertical bars in the shutter curtain weren't all the way to the side). It was a trivial fix in this case for this camera. Open the camera back, take off the lens so you have access to the shutter from both sides. Then with the two index fingers on either side of the shutter just gently advance it to its normal resting position where the shutter is centered. Don't use force. This may or may not be helpful, since it is a different camera, but it was so trivial he didn't even charge me.
 
Before you try what olifaunt suggests, or otherwise touch the shutter blades, make sure you first follow the recommendation of Ste S and try the camera with a proper battery.
Possibly the shutter makes noises even when the battery is absent, but gets stuck on the B setting.

I am already in the process of getting a battery inside the camera. My guess is that it is because the camera can't handle the B setting properly without one.
 
I was having a look at it to see if I could locate a problem and the camera seemed back to normal until a few tests of the shutter and then it returned to its issue :bang:
It was on check mode 😕
I will update on anything else.
 
I've tried a 6V Camera Battery (Energizer) And no luck. Nothing happens or appears. I'm thinking of taking it to somewhere like the Real Camera Company in Manchester city centre when possible.
