Stucked shutter in Yashica Electro 35 GL

After seeing what the Electro is capable of doing, I took a plunge, bidded and won a GL despite the following description.

"Some wear from use and dirt, no broken or damaged buttons or levers seen. Some corrosion and leakage in the battery compartment. Uses 35mm film, one 5.6V mercury camera battery. Shutter blades appear to be stuck and do not open, camera will advance and make a click when release is pressed, but the blades do not move. "

Any thought whether I can still bring this back to life? I have seen instruction to resuscitate a GSN but not a GL. The only consolation is, the pictures look good. I hate to use it as paper weight. I am still waiting for it to be shipped. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Open and clean it. The procedures are the quite same as on the regular Electro 35's. If you are lucky, that's all that is needed, but the GL and GX seem to be somewhat prone to electronics failures, which are extremely hard to fix.

Received the camera last week, and tested it...the shutter was alright....phewwww!

The following are some department store scan of the expired film I used.

Don't laugh please. Picture 1 is the very first pic that came out from the camera and my first experience with RF. Any idea what happened? And tell me what you think of the rest. Thanks.

Picture number one looks like perhaps you tried to take a picture a frame too soon and caught a bit of the film leader that had been exposed to light before you loaded the film into the camera. As all the other shots look good, I would say you have yourself an excellent camera there!! Congratulations!!

Sorry for hijacking, but I don't think this would have warranted a new thread. I went on a shopping spree today at a local camera expo and managed to snag two Yashica rangefinders, the Electro35 and Lynx 14E.
Everything seems fine with the Electro35 except that I fear there might be some lightleaks but I'll try to have that fixed.
However, the Lynx 14e has a problem. The shutter seems to be stuck. If I wind it and shoot, I can only see one of the arms twitch and nothing more. All the guides I can find are for the Electro35 and also doesn't seem to concern with the shutter at all.

Make sure you clean out that corrosion in the battery compt. If the camera is like the GSN nothing will work without the battery, at least I don't think.

Actually, the Lynx 14 will work quite well without power, The shutter is purely mechanical. The battery is just for the meter, which is not coupled to the shutter in any way. However, cleaning out the batt compartment is always a good idea. You never know where that nasty stuff will end up!!
