Study in Composition: The Incredibles

Ron, of Halifax made an extensive analisys of the Pixar movie The Incredibles.


We [guilty as charged here] spend considerable energy discussing technique and gear, when we begrudgingly admit that it all comes down to lighting and composition. Take a minute and give the article a read, there are so many parallels and practical applications to what we do.

Especially read the part about what the different shots do - ie, full vs close-up.

I have always been a fan of the 50mm field of view for loose head and torso shots, but recently I have been making concerted effort to get the top of the head and feet plus margin on my subjects, opting for 35mm or portrait 50mm. Having read that article, I have more insight as to what I was trying to accomplish, and how to put it in words and actions.
