Stupid Scanner Question...

When using a film scanner with a glass film holder, will the scanner pick up any dust or smudges on the glass?

Yes, it sure will.

The glass has to be clean on both the top and bottom of both pieces of glass. That's 6 surfaces to keep clean (top and bottom of the film, plus the top and bottom of two pieces of glass)

😱 I suspected as much. What a PITA!
I have very little dust issues scanning 35mm with my Minolta Scan Multi, but it's proving impossible to get the MF glass holder clean. And of course the dust seems much for pronounced on 645 negs. :bang:

I clean workroom, canned air and an anti-static brush are your best friends 😉

Use Digital Ice or Vuescan, save yourself a lot of aggro.

It's the Mult II, not Pro, so No ICE. It's a bummer!
