Dont feel bad -- at least you didn't open the camera before rewinding the film after taking Arnold Swarzennegger's photo. Fortunately I had two rolls and the good one was already sequestered.
 
and so it seems after all that yes, we are all human.

as i drove home today i started thinking how lucky it was that i had 2 rd1 bodies as this one was gonna be in transit and then in service for a while.
so very happy that will not be the case.
 
Yep, same thing's happened to me with the R-D1 -- more than once, I'm embarrassed to admit.:bang:

I also feel obligated to mention the couple of times I've loaded my Rolleiflex and forgotten to pass the film leader under the roller. The winding crank never stopped then either, but the result was winding through half the roll waiting for frame #1 before I twigged that something was amiss. :bang::bang:

I had a similar experience with my RD-1 while I was taking lots of 1s exposures from a copy stand (I know that doesn't make sense, but I don't have an slr and I sold my visoflex a decade ago). At some point the shutter just jammed. I switched it on/off, and waited, and then it worked again. 3 min later it jammed again, and again and again.
Another 15 minutes was spent desperately rummaging in my closet to find the epson box to see if my warranty had expired yet.
Finally I realized that the battery was flat....
 
hehehe... this happen to me in a special trip before. It was a very panic moment of my life.

It isn't stupid, is the love that you have for your camera and your photography passion mixed with the laziness that this digital world make us to forget the number of shot like it's with the films.

Maybe is the the time to use your film camera a little bit.

You wonder why the film counter goes to 40 when it should just say "it didn't spool you dummy".

for the life of me, I cannot understand why your story reminded me of this story.

"A fairly accomplished photographer was driving down some back roads around Crawford TX. (do you know where this is going).

Driving with his windows open, looking for photo ops, he heard someone yelling frantically. He stopped the car, got out, climbed over a fence and walked toward the yelling.

He encountered there, George (dubya) Bush stuck to his neck in quicksand and going down......

The photographer was confronted with the possiblity of:

1) getting a pulitzer prize winning photo of dubya in very real consequential trouble, or:
2) saving the life of the President of the United States.

The answer to the inevitable action formed in his mind as he asked himself:

What f-stop and shutter speed for this light?"

Now... What if he had been packing an RD-1 with a full memory card.
 
I gotta admit, it happened to me for the first time this week, it took me the whole of 2 minutes to figure out why the R-D1 shutter refused to fire.

Damn 2 GB cards....filled up 4 of them in the last 9 days.

Joe, if that's the worst photo mistake you ever make life is still good. I can't tell you how many times I got that prize winning shot with no film in the camera.
