Particularly interesting is the Midrange AF SLRs from 1980-90s. Not so attractive models are easier to get cheap.
I got a Nikon F80 with 28-80 kit lens for that amount, including a bag and a nice Japanese made cable release. F90's were the high end and there is the occasional kit for that price or lower. Yesterday I saw one for 25€, 28-70 zoom included. I wanted to get that zoom as a walkaround lens.
I even saw the amusing case of a 50mm 1.8D being cheaper kitted with a film body that used stand alone.
I don't know Canon's lineup as well but the situation is similar. Curiously in my area (film) Nikons are cheaper priced.
Pentax P30's seem rather available and often come with a 35-70 zoom (bah) or a 50mm 1.7 (nice). My interest is in kits that bring a 50mm, which standalone can be worth more (here).

In Spain there's a classifields app that ranks items by distance, and for some goods it's a good method.

Olympus 10 with a 135mm or 50mm lens. I know because I couldn't sell a working one for $40 with a 135mm Zuiko a few months ago.

I picked up a Mamiya Sekor MSX 500 with 50mm F2 lens in a charity store for $5.50. Light meter uses a standard SR44 battery.
Naturally, since finding this camera I've spent quite a bit more on screw mount lenses.

The OM10 is the real bargain that seems to be available everywhere, I got one last year with a Tokina 28 - something zoom for nine pounds...

I picked up a Nikon 8008S in "bargain" condition from KEH for $ 16.00. I had recently purchased a $ 125.00 Nikon F4S from another major used camera dealer and wanted another Nikon AF camera to supplement my Canons.
A more critical buyer would find something wrong with the 8008S I bought, but it works perfectly and exposures with ambient light and with the $ 25.00 "bargain" SB24 I bought at the same time seem just fine to me?
You can get a 28-70 AF zoom lens for $ 25.00 or less on Ebay or Craigslist any day of the week.
If you want manual focus you can find Pentax ME Supers for less than the price of decent lunch. Don't be afraid to buy some $ 5.00 dead camera every now and then. Some of them are truly dead, but I'm batting about 75% on just putting a good battery in a dead camera and getting a working one. Usable lens are cheap and plentiful!

Good point about the dead ones as most have a half used film in them and a dead battery. So the owners gave up!
It's important to take out the dead battery and look for corrosion of the battery contacts before handing over your cash. Also remove the lens and look through it and so on.
As for batteries, some are expensive and rare (perhaps in your town) and have to be got by mail order. It's easy to make a short list of them and, of course, the mercury substitutes. Not much point saving cash on a camera and then finding it needs a lot of expensive batteries. The ones taking one or two SR44's are best, then the CR2s and CR123's.
A minor point is that buying a lens cap and instruction manual on the www can make the camera a poor bargain.
Another point when checking is that some cameras will only fire the shutter when they have a film in them; there's a switch to check somewhere. So they look dead even with new batteries in them. So save the half used film to check this. Then use it to practice trimming the end for your Barnack...

loves old lenses
true for fast 50s(55/58s), but f1.8 and f2 are cheap and many are very good ( Takumar 1.8/55, OM 1.8/50, asf. ) and even some f1.4 are still very cheap, e.g. Minolta f1.4/58, a few days ago one sold, on the 'bay', together with a SRT101 + case for BIN price 39.98

For something a little different, a Konica Autoreflex TC with 40mm 1.8 lens. Sharp, versatile lens, although the camera's shutter sound is almost like a MF SLR's.

I've seen Nikkormat FT3s with 50/2 nikkors go for around that amount. Take current batteries, SOLID and easy to use. shopgoodwill.com

That must have been a long time ago. Or a garage sale! I look for those all the time and the lens itself is that price, usually more. A working FT3 is also much more than that.
Excellent camera. I use the FT2 which is the same but also allows the use of non AI lenses and it takes modern batteries. The FT3 needs AI/AIS lenses.
