Can it be explained why all of the sudden, I was being subscrbed to threads I had posted to, without my setting that option? I turned it back off, but there is not a clear way to unsubscribe from current threads.

Happens in my email too from time to time. A couple of months ago it got real bad. I went & made sure my settings were turned off but it didn't seem to help. Now it will be interesting to see if this pops up in my email.:D

I have the opposite problem, I get no notification for threads I am subscribed to. And from time to time I get notifications from threads I am not subscribed to. Interesting threads nonetheless so I am generally not unhappy to discover them.

You just go to the control panel and view subscribed threads, then click on the ones you want to unsubscribe to and delete them on the bottom of the list.:)

I haven't had the issue with being subscribed when i don't choose to so, can't help you there.

The mode of subscription to threads can be selected in the User CP options page. It sometimes seems to turn off or on without user interaction - perhaps that database table has a flaw.

The "No e-mail notification" worked, but I wouldn't have noticed it at all if the little icon hadn't appeared next to the posts I replied to. I'll go deselect them now. Thanks, Chris.

Well, it happened again, only this time I recieved e-mail notifications. Got it all reset, but am wondering if it is a bug in the software, or something a tad more insidious? NFf just had to do a massive reset because of a spammer attack, and it started with the font size changing all by itself.

The "workaround" would be to Unsubscribe (click on "Thread Tools"), although that's not acceptable, because once you reply to a new (new to you) thread, you'll be automatically subscribed and will have to manually Unsubscribe.

I wonder why a thread subscription has become compulsory? I'm not saying at all this is on purpose, but it is a fact, until fixed.

I haven't had another occurance since I cleaned out all the subscriptions earlier today. Unlike what Gabriel was talking about, it was happening to forum sections I already had posted to before. Hope it's all straightened out now. Thanks, Steve.

For those still having the problem:
- Go to 'User CP' (on top of page)
- Select 'Edit Options' on the left
- In the second block ('Messaging & Notification'), there is an option 'Default Thread Subscription Mode'. Set this to 'Do not subscribe', and you're clear.

Yes. Done that. Still getting e-mail "updates" from some threads (this one, for example) but not others. Evidently, this "feature" has some issues causing it to produce unwanted/unintended results.

I recently went to my "Subscribed Threads" and saw I had been auto-magically subscribed to threads I had posted/replied to in the past few weeks.

I had to go in there and delete from that list.
