To Light & Love ...
Kind of juvenile a ‘Like’ button,
but times they are a changing
To Me, it’s Far more interesting and worthy
to read a ‘Viewer’s ‘ thoughts
(Than see a number of likes)

This discussion may be academic for a couple of reasons:
The administrator and/or sponsor may have absolutely no interest in altering this site to include "like" button functionality.
The results of an appropriately written query against the RFF database may show that the majority of users are already responding with comments to each picture posted in the many image-related threads created on the forum.

For what it's worth, I'm not sure that the use of a "like" button is any more juvenile than the use of the cartoon emojis facilitated by this site and other forums on the internet.Guth

Stephen, this thread has served as a reminder for me to take a moment to say thank you for keeping this forum going.
I also happen to run a forum and the subject of "likes" has come up every now and then and likely will again in the future (no pun intended). I personally do not enable this sort of functionality on my forum for a few different reasons. Whatever you decide to do or not do in this case is fine by me. I just wanted you to know that I appreciate this place just the way it is.

Abstract Clarity
Can we have a
"this post is such mindless drivel that I don't even want to comment on it, so I'm pressing this button instead"
button?
If there was such a button I know a thread where it would get a lot of use.
All the best,
Mike

We could have a of of fun and games thinking up buttons.
How about a button for "A stylised fusion of Edith Haylier pictorialism in her middle period and Andy Warhol's student work" and so on, and so on, and so one?

Many thematic RFF threads have many pictures I like. Too often I do not acknowledge that appeal because I do not want to go to the trouble of posting individual comments for each example, which could be as many as a dozen on each page of the thread. If a picture is worth a thousand words, then it's worth a simple click to indicate "like."
If a photographer seeks detailed responses to images, then those pictures should be posted in a critique thread that doesn't include "like" functionality.
I’m thinking in a similar direction. Sometimes I just like photos and it would be nice to let the photographers know that without the hussle of writing so. It would be convenient to have a like button for these cases. And nobody would be offended if I’d like to comment on some of them, so we could have both options and everyone could live on happily. On the other hand, it is completely up to the owner of RFF...
As said in another thread some time ago,
this software does not give us a LIKE button option.
If we did have a LIKE button, I would not enable it.
Its too mindless for my tastes.
However, you are free to LIKE me for my choice,
and install your own LIKE button on your mirror.

Yes, comments are best, but so few offer them.
I've always considered likes lazy, and they probably are. But at least you know someone noticed your contribution, something I usually doubt here on RFF.
