About a month ago a friend called me asking, "should i buy this camera at a garage sale" after a couple questions on the phone i said, YES!

It turned out to be a 1938 Leica IIIb with a very hazy summar 50/2, she paid $40.

I sold the IIIb on ebay for about $200 and had the lens cleaned by DAG. I plan to shoot a roll tomorrow.

wish me luck! samples soon.

well here we are... 2 shots on XP2 and 1 on fuji 400 pro.in the same shoot i used a ZM planar and summicron 90

these 3 shots are all from the summar

I really like the planar, I have the elmar-m 2.8 which is a very sharp and contrasty lens.
in comparison, the planar is just as good and faster, and sharp wide open.

Which is planar and wich is summicron? btw how do you find planar compared to elmar 50/2.8?

Those shots with that Summar are spectacular! Did you have to adjust the contrast from the negative? I always need to, but I feel I shouldn't.

Just love the 'cron shot, it is such a perfect photo. Man, wish I could do that well. I have a 90 Tele- Elmarit that I have had a modicum of success with but nothing as good as yours.

There was no adjustments made, they are scans from costco!

Thanks!

I am just getting a handle on that lens.
