Summarit 35mm

I think I used to live in this neighborhood? Ave. A perhaps?

I currently have a version III Summicron and a Summaron 2.8 without goggles. I decided I like the look of the Summaron better for my own photography than the faster 'cron. In fact I am selling it in the classifieds right now. What convinced me was a while back I rented an M8 and was shooting in Paris. I got such a beautiful rendition in my color cityscapes that I haven't seen in the 'cron. It's that old leica look. It's my own preference, and I am surprised by it. I usually like to shoot wide open indoors at fast aperatures and keeping the slower lens was not something I thoght I would do.

I got my 35 Summarit from Tony Rose at Popflash a few months ago, and it's the most satisfying lens I own. Rocheung said it well in his comment here: not super sharp (to my mind, hardly a fault), but "creamy and natural, not exaggerated." The f/2.5 aperture is irrelevant to me, since I rarely shoot it wide open. The only thing about it I don't like is the barrel distortion, but I'm pretty fussy about such things, and it's no worse than, say, the 35/1.4 Nokton in this respect. Here are some shots taken a few days ago here in London:

Well I've got my hands on the summarit again. I'll do some personal comparisons to the IV cron this week. I can't remember which one I liked more...
