Are there any other types of lens hoods that fit this lens, besides the XOON(is this right?) ? I think that particular hood looks like it may be a bayonet mount hood as well. Every now and then also, I notice listings for filters for this lens as well, are they specific?, for example bayonet mount?

not sure of hood
but filters are 41mm very rare, some folks use 40.5 with a thin piece of plumbing tape. The factory hood is recommended, but you should be able to find or make a push on if you can find the exact right sizes.

Hi There,
Stephen Gandy, CameraQuest has 41mm metal Voigtlander hoods for $30, or $50 including a metal cap. I have a XOONS hood for my Summarit, but if I did not, I wouldn't think twice about purchasing the Voigtlander one, including the cap, from Stephen.
Cheers,

I'm using a heliopan step-up ring (from 41mm to 46mm) and attached a heliopan 46 mm hood (for 35mm lenses). So far, this has worked well for me. Definitely beats carrying the heavy and expensive Leica hood around.

Thanks for this great info. I'm actually trying to sell my chrome Summarit (in the classifieds) but if I can't sell it, I think I will go this method, do you get much blockage with the adapter and/or hood (.72 mag?)
I'm curious, since at 2filter.com the 41 to 52 is the same price, if that step up adapter alone might provide some hood benefit, but am worried about vf/rf blockage?? Is 46mm the highest to go?
thanks sspeed

Gandy`s 41mm cuts the corner of 50mm frame. One with a step up will hide more.
XOONS interferes more, 25% of the total frame, than Gandy`s circular one.
The difference is there is a cut section in XOONS so there is only a thin line showing.
XOONS is a clamp on, not bayonet or screw in. Without double threaded filters, you can`t use Gandy`s and a filter. Most if not all 41 are not double threaded so if you like a Leitz UV to protect the very soft coating, buy the Zoons. Rectangular is also more efficient for flare reduction.

Thanks as always to everyone for your answers, it's nice to know no matter what is asked, I always get more options than I thought I would in response to my questions.

I have a 41 to 46mm step up ring, and 2 stacked 46mm filter rings (with glass removed) as a hood for my Summarit.

As someone here pointed out to me in a similar thread, someone at bee-bay sells a 40.5mm hood that is poorly machined, so it is perfect for 41mm thread. I checked it out and it is true. I also have the orginal lens hood for the Summarit. Both work well with this lens.

Here is the hint from my thread on finding a lens hood for the Summarit:
=======================================================
I bought a hood for my 40.5 mm lenses off ebay for $11.98. It's very nice, only one thing: it doesn't fit any of my 40.5 lenses, however it is a PERFECT fit on my Summarit. So I'm guessing in Hong Kong somewhere is a hood manufacturing device just slightly mis-calibrated.
I was initially very unhappy after I tried to mount it on my Jupiter 8, tears turned to joy when I thought to try it on the Summarit, which is the one I really wanted a hood for anyway,
Current listing for identical item:

ampguy: The auction site does not show any sales over 60 days old, and that's when I got my lens hood. I would try key words: lens hood hongkong.

Another option is the 41mm Tiffen Series 6 adapter with hood. The guy from filterfind.net had a couple available at the San Jose show last week. He should be at the SF swap 11/4 and in Hayward 11/5. Email him to be sure.

I just ordered one of the Hong Kong ones with similar desc. as what Raid had mentioned. If that doesn't work, I will try the 41mm Tiffen. Thanks.

ampguy: This lens hod looks identical to the one that I got. It fits very well when pushed on.

Let me know if it does, my Summarit should be here, hopefully tommorow, and I'm sure I'll be needing a hood one day.

I guess, we will know soon whether their machining is still off or not. This is one of these rare cases when you want the quality control to be lousy.
