Hi Rangefinder Forum,
I have a Summicron vIII with a tight focus ring; it's tight enough to slow me from focusing quickly and often detracts me from using the lens in favour of my 2/35. I've tried what someone else suggested in another thread and spent some time rotating the focus ring back & forth to see if it loosens but it's had no effect. It's usable (ish) but a lot tighter than my version IV 2/35.
Is this a common problem and is there any way I could solve it myself? If not, can anybody recommend me a reliable & reasonably priced Leica repair specialist in the United Kingdom?

Sounds like it has received a "bimp" not quite a bump but enough to put the barrel slightly out of round. Two choices, send it out & have someone try to wear it in with a grinding compound or replace the barrel.

Thanks guys but it's loosened up now. I removed a couple of the screws on the focus ring and put a couple of drops of organic bicycle chain lube in. I did consider the bimp theory but the lens is immaculate on the exterior and shows no signs of impact. I imagine it was left in a draw somewhere for a few years before I bought it and had dried out.
Thanks, Tim
