the DR acts as a regular summicron without the goggles. Without them you should be fine to use it. Keep in mind that you will not be able to use the close focus feature of the lens.

With goggles I'm not sure.

Every time I post in this thread I end up looking through the images and it makes me want to use it even more. I'm always torn between this one and my collapsible. Fantastic shots everyone, notably Erik for showing the versatility of this lens.

So I have a DR Summicron now and I tried it out on my M10. Close focus works, even with the goggles (though the view is a little wonky) but without the goggles the focus stops at 10m on mine. Reportedly there are some out there that will focus to infinity but as far as I understand it will require modification to do so.

On most digital M Leicas, the DR Summicron will only work in close range. The goggles have nothing to do with fitting. The lens cam hits the inside of the body and I'm sure there are a few out there who tried focusing to infinity and succeeded...
In prying the camera about 4mm wider. It's a great lens on digital in close focus, otherwise get a Rigid version as it is the same lens. The modification of the DR is the removal of the close focus cam and basically destruction of the lens. Afterwards it is just a 51.9 Rigid Summicron that weighs a lot.

Sounds about right to me Phil, I'm not hugely pressured to use it on my M10 anyways as it strikes me as an ideal 50 for black and white film work. It'll live on my M4 along with my 21mm Super Angulon.

I'm working on building a more modern lens kit for digital anyway.

That's my Leica kit as well. M4 with a 50mm DR Summicron and a 2.1cm O Nikkor on an adapter. You can travel around the world with a small light kit like that and not want for another lens. Except maybe a 135mm once in a while.
