Is there a way to know just from the serial number whether a particular Summicron 50/2 Rigid is a v1 (single focal length scale, ridges on the peaks of the focus ring scallops) or a v2 (dual feet/meters scale, ridges in the valleys of the focus ring scallops)?

Thanks,
Ari

That just gives the serial number range for the whole "Rigid" production from 1957 to 1968. What I'm looking for is, within the "Rigid" designation, at what serial number they switched over from the earlier type to the later type, as differentiated in my description above.

To be specific, is a 'cron with SN 1811xxx (i.e., from 1960) still within the range of single-scale instances, or had they gone over to dual feet/meters scale by then?

Hey Ari,

I have a DR with serial 1706xxx that has black/red scale in meter and feet.

From Lager it's not clear when the transition was made. Early though.

Roland.

Most all DR are version 2. Version 1 is heavy bright chrome with a narrow focus ring.

Version 2 is a duller satin chrome much like a chrome M camera.

The optical formulas are different and the "eyes " are not interchangeable.

The googles are not interchangeable. But I believe that the differences between the 1st and 2nd versions of the DR and the Rigid are just mechanical (not optical). I've had a few of both version.

Would anyone like to comment on signature difference between the different rigid versions? A DR is out for me. Would like to find a rigid that has a look of the DR.
