Summicron 90/2 for $1000+ ???

Hey Raid, I will be interested to know how you feel if/once you sell your 90mm summicron (e48) and purchase a pre-asp summicron...I have been thinking of doing the same....cheers, michael

With the impending M9 (FF?) release, I wonder if the demand for tele lenses will increase slightly? A true 75mm or 90mm...

... and then 35mm lenses will become more popular than the 28mm lenses which now are being used on the M8 as "35mm". This means, sell your 28mm lens quickly and/or get your 35mm lens quickly since prices will rise for the 35mm lenses when the M9 comes out!

Stick to the 90 for a month or two, Raid. Maybe the FF M9 comes a la carte, with .85 finder ? 🙂

I thought again about what you are doing. I would keep the 90/2, and maybe sell some of your 50s ? The 90 is easier to use on the M3, and has identical DOF wide open and close up as the 75/1.4. Plus your 90 is part of such a nice 35/50/90 kit ....

Think of the 75 as a slightly long 50 ....

Reg the price, there is a v2 90/2 in the classifieds for US 525 now.

I thought again about what you are doing. I would keep the 90/2, and maybe sell some of your 50s ? The 90 is easier to use on the M3, and has identical DOF wide open and close up as the 75/1.4. Plus your 90 is part of such a nice 35/50/90 kit ....

Think of the 75 as a slightly long 50 ....

Nikon 50/2 Tokyo,

Zeiss Jena 50mm/2.8 Tessar LTM,

Canon 50/1.8,

Zeiss Opton 50mm 1.5 Contax mount.

If it has E48 filter size and the head comes off for Viso then it is earlier than the pre-asph. It is really a beautiful lens. The Viso adapter is really hard to find but worth search for. You can then use it on Nikon DSLR, et al.

I have this lens and the Visoflex adapter, and the adapter to Nikon, as well as the OUEPO. I've tried to sell the set once before and got no bites. The lens does work great on a Nikon body with infinity focus guaranteed.

I won't put mine FS on this forum while Raid is considering selling his. Good luck!

Oh yeah, the lens is sharp wide open.

I just checked that 90 cron. The aperture numbers are reversed from the earlier chrome 90 cron ver 2 I have--maybe the same as Raids...

Part of the reason why I got the 90mm Cron was to see whether it was good enough to replace the 75mm Lux for my general (non-professional) use. If so, the 75mm can make room for the 50/90mm pair for the M3.

Time will tell (soon, I hope)

I have never used a 75mm Summilux and I would be very interested whether selling so many items [in my case] to get such a lens is actually worth it if you already have a Summicron or not.

Hi Raid, I bought a black Cron for $750, but found it too soft for my taste at full aperture. Otherwise nice lens.

Leica M8 + 90mm Summicron pre-asph E55 @ f/2


My experience with this lens has never been one of "softness" at full aperture. Accurately-focused and stabilized, of course.

I agree with Gabriel. If well used, this lens is sharp even when wide open. It seems to be a label it got to be soft wide open. It is not.

Hello Raid, if I remeber correctly, you showed a photo before of your 35mm with goggles, 50mm rigid and the 90mm summicron...I am pretty sure we have the same lens...I don't think I could get a lot for mine because the body is a user and it definitely shows wear, however, the glass is perfect and it works excellent, but yes, it is a big lens.....it is also very well made..

it's sharp enough for me and I think it is excellent for portraits...

Some people swear by the 75 Lux. I found it too heavy to take along as a second lens. For what they cost you'd probably do better with the 75 Cron.
